I have a 440 with a 1407 Elelbrock carb along with the 1481 Throttle lever adaptor . Went through the procedure with 3/16 drill bit , aligning the bracket for proper kick down with no success. I have the rod adjusted (Ref # 7) as far as it will go with out popping off and still no kick down. I made a few modification by adding a bolt and nut to carb rod ( Ref # 6 ) and got some kick down but not much. So know its in the linkage, Is there another part needed when using edelbrock system ? 727 Kickdown.jpg

So both Ref 6 and 7 are threaded out as far as possible? I had a 383 with Edelbrock carb and Performer intake and had the same issues as you. I took off the linkage and went with the Bouchillion kickdown cable setup. I've heard of guys finding extension rods that were threaded inside at hardward stores and cutting them to size.

I have not done anything with Ref # 7 but will give that a shot.... I did slip another bolt and run in #7 giving it more throw and was able to get some kick down on test run ( but knew it was not right ) but now I know its a linkage problem and not something in the tranny

It sounds like you may have some 383 linkage and maybe some 2bbl pieces. Are you sure you have the 440 4bbl throttle cable bracket and 440 rod/link reference #7 and 4bbl rod/link reference #6 The 383 rod # 13 is different than a 440 rod and the #15 rod is different from 2-BBL to 4-BBL The throttle cable bracket is also different from a 383 2or4bbl to a 440. In 67 (assuming that is what year you are working on) with a 727 the bellcrank(9), trans rod(no#) and trans lever(14) are the same on a 727 from a 383 to a 440 2 or 4bbl but some other years they are different pieces as well. If your 727 trans has been changed at some time you may also have an incorrect trans valve body lever(14) which needs to be correct also to make the system function correctly. If you post some pics of what you have we can assist you better.

Here are the pictures of the linkage I have in a 67 Plymouth Satellite the motor and tranny came out of a 68 Chrysler as a set.

Taller intakes mean that you must change some parts to make them longer. Last car that I changed I just increased the rod length till I got at a close to right length with adjustment in its middle range and then welded the rod back together.

When you fine tune it with the slotted rod on top, do you open the gap between the pin and the end of the slot or close the gap and provide pressure on the linkage to increase the shift rpm's? Just had a discussion with a friend and it's been 40 years since I adjusted the kickdown. tmm

Can someone tell me what the length is on this rod for a 440 and 727 tranny #13 Rod.jpg727%20Kickdown.jpg

Still Struggling with Kick Down engagement.. If I add a 1/2 inch bolt in this area I get kick down... so I know its in the linkage somewhere ? Does anyone have a 440 set up that can measure each rod involved so I can compare it to mine ? I think I may have a rod that's bent or not the correct length at all.mopar.jpg
