I have a good steel 440 crank, 440 - 6pack rods that have the beams ground with bronze bushings, and a 68-69 HP 383 block. Would it be worth it to have the block's main saddles bored to accept the 440 crank and the bottom of the cylinder walls clearanced ? I believe this would give me a 426, which would be plenty for my car. I was considering 452 heads just to keep within budget.
Comments???

Normally you would cut the mains on the crank to fit the block, but yeah, adding the extra arm to the 383 isn't such a bad idea. I think pistons for this combo are readily available so it's even that much easier. I would use either 906 or 915 heads because they have a better intake port than the 452's. And yes, you would have a low block 426 (or 431 .030" over).

Thanks for the response. Very much appreciated.

You're right. A 0.030 clean-up bore is likely in order.
