Was the placement of the HP stamp on a 440 ID pad always placed at the bottom right side of the pad. Would it ever have been placed after the 440 stamp on the top line. Does an upside down A mean its an HP engine. Thanks
I'm curious as well. Post a good picture of your engine ID stamping pad.
Mine and most I've seen have the "HP" only on the lower-right. As for the upside-down A, I read somewhere that it's most likely a stamping error. Are you sure it's an upside-down "A", and not a "V" with a stray center mark? This thread has a good explanation, see Post#6 from 71383bee:
Side-note: Mine says "HPA" in the lower-right, the "A" is suppose to mean .020 over-bore, possibly because the original standard boring wasn't uniform across all cylinders and within specs, so they re-did it. Dunno for sure.
