I have never rebult a 440 before. I am worried about how to properly assemble the rear main seal. I would rather do it righ the first time. Any suggsetions?

I've done ~5 big blocks over the years just using the Felpro rubber rear main seal on stock cranks. All used the factory retainer and I always offset the parting line about a 1/4". The Felpro kit comes with pipe cleaners for the retainer side seals now which I don't like. On the last one I used the 440 source silicone side seals with a little 5905. They take some finessing to get them to slide in nicely but the 5905 helps lube them while it's still wet.

It's important to make sure the retainer seals at the parting line and the sides of the block.

With the silicon one, it is essential to make sure that area is completely clean. Wipe down with break cleaner, or another cleaner that doesn't leave a residue. If not, the silicon won't completely stick.
