What distributor are you using? It could be that.
This is what I was wondering as well. Might be a small block distributor? Think the are longer than a B engine but shorter than an RB. So that might be the reason for the minimal engagement?
I could be all mistaken on that as well lol.

I’m sure there would be others complaining about the fitment if it was the gear. 440Source would make it right.

I'm using an msd dist. its for an rb, called 440 source they asked me to send them some pictures
explained to them what the problem is

I compared the overall lengths of the 2 i provided measurements for in previous posts. they were equal overall length. Stupid question: is your distributor all the way seated in the block? Sometimes the o-ring on the dizzy takes a little lube and persuasion to get it all the way down in the block.

I have the remains of an A distributor I use for oil pump priming. I compared it to my new 440 unit for the wagon. The A is longer on the shaft tip by 3/8" or so on the overall length between the two. I'm doing r&d on efi for the wagon down the road and am going to use a 5.2/5.9 magnum distributor as it's a Hall effect unit. Before I pick up a used unit to test fit by the head, I'll slip my primer in that spot to verify.

dist is all the way seated ,made sure, i think the problem is the slot might be to short

How many people would think to check if it's short like this though? It'll fit and it'll work as pictured. Might cause some irratic spark bounce though as the dizzy might have extra slop.
Now, if it was short into the oil pump like that and you cranked off 110psi cold you could have problems

Are you able to verify if you get the same ~1.38" measurement @Vertex_Jeff got? The shop saying it was very different from the hughes one makes me think it has to be that measurement being different.

Last week I was up in the air between getting the 440 source shaft or the hughes and ended up going with hughes, it will be here Thursday and I'll post up dimensions.
