Well finally got my 451 built and installed in my 69 Road Runner. Specs are 509 cam, stock rocker gear, 906 heads with mild porting and pocket blending. HOLLEY street Dominator intake, Eddy AFB 750 carb. This motor runs really strong. It even gets rubber (a little) when it hits 2nd gear in a stock 727 T/F . This is at 5000 feet MSL , with 2.76 gears! But I am running Ross 14 cc dome pistons. Around 12 to 1 compression. Using 100 Sunoco. Ran some 91/100 at 50 50 mix and it would ping a little when RPM rose to about 3500. This is probably when cylinder filling was at its peak efficiency. So as I read many times, this is a killer combo. Now I know! For lower altitudes, C/R should be kept more toward 10.5 or 11 to 1. Of course must have access to high octane fuel. I heard of a guy running E 85 in a 451, and into low 11 s at Bandimere drag strip. He increased jet size 30% for the E 85. I believe it is rated 105 octane. I plan to go to 3.55 gears next month. Happy Moparing!:happy7:

Throw a shift kit in that 727, takes about an hour to install and really makes a difference! Swap to a deeper pan while you are in there to extend fluid life/keep the transmission fluid cooler. Simple upgrades that will enhance performance and dont cost a ton=well worth it!
