I'm replacing this carter afb with edelbrock 1405 carb. Whats this device on the pass side of carter carb? (Red arrow)
It seems that the new carb covers this actuator. I haven't determined if the edelbrock needs this. Thanks

You should have bought the Edel model that has an elec choke as part of the carb. There maybe a conversion kit available.

Out of curiosity, what is the Carter number on the original carb shown in the 2nd and 7th pix? The origional carb was 3611S for both auto and manual trans application for the 383 engine. The Carter number is on a tag on one of the bowl screws and stamped on the left front carb mounting flange along with an alphanumeric build date code. Are you going to dispose of it? Just asking......

Dan,
Thank you for your email...... True, the carb is dirty and cruddy....but it is the ORIGIONAL. The Carter AFB is a simple, easy to rebuild, reliable and calibrated for your vehicle. It could be restored to origional, as good a new by Woodruf Carbs, a member of this site. IMO....without a controversial war erupting, if it was my choice, I would rebuild your origional carb as all its calibration points have all ready been established. Just talking out loud.....

Thanks Bob, yes, I'll likely be rebuilding the original carb after I get this car on the road & registered. It'll be a driver for my wife. since I'm a bit out of my comfort zone with carbs, i figured the straight line to getting this on the road was a new carb..
Thanks for the suggestion & link. I really appreciate it.
