I just wanted a place to document the changes I've made to this '64 Plymouth. I bought it two months ago and it's been a lot of fun so far!

It's not really a Super Stock racer, but it is starting to look and sound like one.

Here's a recent idle clip, and then some current photos:

I saw the ad on FB Marketplace. It was local, had a big block, and an old style cage in it. So I took the trip to check it out.

You can see for yourself, it had some ugly stuff. But it was also really cool.

I handed the man his money and loaded it up.

I had a pair of ET front wheels and 6.40-15s for a different project. I immediately put those on it, and took out the cardboard inner headlight covers that had been RTV'd in.

As far as I know, here are the specs when I got the car;
1976 440 block, .030 over
earlier forged crank
stock rods
ARP hardware
Edelbrock Performer RPM heads
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Hooker Super Comp headers
Deep oil pan
Howards hydraulic flat tappet cam (.531/.547, 230/236 @.050, CL 106)
1.6 Roller Rockers
Moroso electric water pump
Aluminum radiator with electric fan

727 Torqueflite
Reverse manual valve body and Super Sprag, (Built by Flip in Wichita)
Dynamics Street/Strip 3400 stall converter
electric transmission cooler with braided ss lines
Turbo Action Cheetah shifter with line lock

Dana 60
Strange 35 spline axles and spool
Pro 4.30 gears
Cragar Super Tricks 15x3.5 and 15x10
Hoosier Quick Time Pro 31x13.50 Drag Radials and tubes
MT front tires 29x4.5

Wilwood front disc brakes
Wilwood master cylinder

Sled City AFX fiberglass hood scoop
fuel cell
Auto Meter gauges
Kwik Wire wiring harness
fiberglass front bumper
Holley electric fuel pump
Stainless steel braided fuel lines
Trunk mounted battery with master cutoff switch
Cal-Tracks with Monoleafs
Calvert adjustable front and rear shocks

It had a really anemic Holley vacuum secondary carb on it that would stall every time the car came to a stop. I didn't even bother trying to troubleshoot that piece of junk. I got an M1 intake and a new Dominator for it, then all the fuel system and throttle changes to facilitate that. While I was under there I replaced the electric water pump with a mechanical one and a 7-blade fan, and replaced the valve covers with something a little smoother looking and added some S/S decals. I'm not trying to fool anyone, lol.

I cut some red plexiglass covers to go in the inboard headlights. I might paint it black back there eventually, but it's fine for now.

The fiberglass front bumper was looking pretty beat when I got it, and it was cracking badly around the bolt holes. We pulled it off, made some repairs, and added some steel washers behind the bolt holes. A little paint and voila, good as new.

Last weekend we got busy changing up the colors a bit. A bunch of old Plymouth race cars had a stripe running across the hood, roof, and trunk so I went for it. Also painted the rear wheels to match the stripe.

Nice Savoy! It looks like you are well on the way of making a Silk Purse out of a Pig's Ear! If you have not already done it, that front radiator support needs to be tied back together, since it is an integral part of the strength of the front unibody. A lot of guys cut these out to ease engine replacement, but it is a bad idea, structurally.
My friend, Pete Jr., bought a 64 Savoy last fall. It is a done car, with a 600 inch aluminium Hemi. I am waiting for our weather to improve, to get some outside pictures of it. Pete is going to try to build a 2 headlight grill for it. He bought a couple of spare grills and headlight doors to do this. Thanks for your pictures.

Early Bs are my favorites, especially post cars. But, that Chrysler is sooooo sweet!

I’m messing with you, man. It sounds like you have a lot of great ideas. I’ll get started on them as soon as your check clears. :D

The fenders had holes for the Plymouth emblems, so I got a pair and installed them yesterday.

The car only has one seat and I want it to have two. I found a pair of unidentified beige seats on FB Marketplace. They aren’t great but I couldn’t find anything else that was better. I’ll clean them up and install them.

Some of you guys are familiar with Cal-Tracs. Well, I’m not. This is my first car with them. I was hearing a bang in the rear end on driveways and the rear end has always seemed… bound up. So I pulled the leaf springs down to look it all over and lubricate it.

I did find that all the articulating parts were bone dry. But of more concern, the pass side aluminum spring eye bushing didn’t have the steel sleeve inside it that cages the leaf spring bolt. That popping sound was the front of the leaf spring moving wherever it wanted. You can see the sleeve is on one side but not the other.

I called Calvert today, and they are sending me another sleeve. Looks like the car is on stands for a few days.

Same seats I have! I have one Savoy I’m getting back together and three parts cars. I’ve had two others a long time ago. I had just turned 14 when they came in the showroom, fell in love right then.

Summit sells replacement low back seats for older Jeeps that kinda look like old S/S seats. I think they were just under $300. each.
