64 Sport Fury 426 Max Wedge

I may have a line on a 64 Sport Fury with 426 Max Wedge, but I have literally zero experience with the early 60's cars. Can anyone give me some tips on what to look for to tell if it is a real Max Wedge car and what I should be prepared to pay if I get it? I haven't seen the car, but it's said to be in very good condition and mostly original.

Get the vin # and post it as I have Darrell Davis 64 Ply Max Wedge book and it list all of the 64 Ply Max Wedge vin's. I can look it up in my book for you because if its a real one the vin will be in the book. Ron

Could be off the wall, but from what I've always been told, no such thing as a 'real' max wedge car made from a Sport Fury.
Sport Fury's were top of the line cars. Real max wedge cars were made from Fury, Savoy, Belvedere, and the like...more the plain jane cars, without all the extras.

Do extra checking on that one.

It is what it is. Suppose it depends on who you talk to, or what you want to call it. Sure, there's documents floating around on 'em. No, I've never been lucky enough to get my hands on one.
Have been lucky enough to actually talk to guys who was working on the 'line', when those things were pulled off.

For 'real' max wedge cars, known as a white car, and pretty much only sold to sanctioned drag racers, I was told, and read...simply off the line, a bare car of the right type was picked, and pulled to be made a 'white car'. Called a white car, since all of them were painted white, so the buyer could paint as wanted.
Besides cramming the biggest motor into the car, it got all aluminum, from firewall forward, plexiglas windows, and a that year model bolt to the floor van single seat.

Anything can be made. Especially these days.

Before I would plunk down that much cash the documentation would have to be impeccable, and if I'm not mistaken that one is lacking some of the important stuff. I think the last time it was for sale this came out and the owner was called on it. I might be thinking of another one.... but I doubt it.

That is the car you are refering to,been for sale a long time.
