'66 Charger. Starts up, immediately dies. Won't start again.

Way rich but you stated earlier that the choke was closed so we can't say much about the carb itself.
 
Sounds like, since choke was shut closed before and transfer slots were wide open under throttle blades, carb was flooding hard. So after the initial rough 2-3 minutes idle, it was causing car not to start again.

Now that the carb is properly adjusted except for choke. No choke + fouled plugs is cranking and kicking, but not starting.

Does that sound about right? Just making sure I learn something out of all this.
 
You said it pops when trying to start it. Your timing is way off. I don't care what the carb is doing. Until you get your timing corrected, you'll be scratching your head with carb issues for the rest of your life -- and that will never fix it. Go back to ensuring correct firing order and timing. How about pictures of the distributor and carb?
