I have a 66' I'm getting some bugs worked out on, the first was half the brake lights worked and the other half was really dim and I found two nicked wires causing the short but the brakes lights still only work when the car is running the do not work even with the switch in the on position? The other thing is the tail lights are not working at all, I just got a copy of the wiring diagram and will dig into that this weekend but where are the connectors located that are shown (marked on 1 connector 1.2.3.4.5.6)? Would those be in behind the instrument panel?

Going from memory here.. but I believe that the wiring harness for all lights on the rear of the car are on the drivers side, inside of the car. If you remove the door threshold and kick panel on drivers side, you should see the lighting harness heading to the rear trunk area.

The 6 pin connector is the console harness. It's the 8 pin connector at the top of the schematic that connects to the rear harness. The connector is behind the driver side kick panel.
When you said the brake lights only work with the car running, is that the same for the turn signals and 4 ways?

Thank you both, I’ll check the 8 pin connector tomorrow to verify correct wiring to and from. Neither the brakes, turn signals or 4 ways work unless the car is running.

Well I found the issue,it was 8 pin connector behind the kick pankel. It had two loose wires that had corrosion on the terminals and pushed the pins back so they were not making contact. The tail lights, turn signals and brake lights all work when the accessory switch is on...thanks guys

Whenever you see or have corrosion at or under the crimp in these connectors, you should consider finding some new pin and replace them if they are bad enough. I have seen pin kits on E bay. The corrosion, depending how bad it may be, can cause a resistive condition that can lead to heating at the connection..

I cleaned it up pretty good but will certainly check eBay and see if I can find some for a future swap out. I appreciate the information.
