After tinkering around with crusty sockets I went and found these blade style bulb sockets on Amazon. They were $6. I had to run a 1/2 bit thru the housings and hog them out a bit. But now I have a nice new style connection and the addition of a ground wire.

Thought I’d share if it could benefit anyone

The leads are long enough that the splices will be hidden in the hood.

Nice work, great thinking outside the box.

Even after wobbling the 1/2 bit around the fit is tight. It takes a little “technique” to get them just right.

I haven’t decided which bulb I’ll use, but for reference the original #1816 is 4.26 watts. A #194 is 3.8 watts and a #168 bulb is 4.9 watts.

I’m going to try both 194 and 168 and see. But it won’t be until the spring, I’m getting ready to pull the engine and to reseal it and paint the engine bay.
