68 "X" QQ1

That Charger is LL1 which is the turquoise color that year. Its another color that can look very different from mix to mix. These colors are so hard to replicate exact with new paint formulas. Almost all have a small tinge of difference but they all look so nice.

Many thanks! I’m narrowing down choices for my ‘66 Coronet restoration. Will be ready for paint in about 5 weeks. Been wondering about that Charger paint for the last month! Gorgeous when the sun hits it!

QQ1 was not a one year color! They used it until the end of June and then switched.
Don't know why. If you didn't get your order in early, no dice. One of these days I'll
find out the "Secret" info on this color.

I think by one year he means only available in 1968 as a whole.....breaking it down by month it may very well be only 6 months, but when looking for codes it was a one year only color inside the year of 1968. Do we know when it was starting to be available? If it was available at the beginning of the year and stopped in July, production was only made in 1968 until the end of June and then August would mark the start of 1969 production. If that was the case it would be available most of the year.

I was told that some of the materials used to make paint years ago , is no longer available. Lead for one. I think that is why we can't get an exact match for QQ1 now. I ordered my 1968 Roadrunner , in that color , In January of 1968. ......................... MO

Yea there are tints and lead and a few others that just aren't available for use anymore so the colors are close. In my honest opinion (which doesn't mean **** really):D as long as the color is close to original and is pleasing to the eye I am happy with it.

I got a perfect match on my QQ1.Spies Hecker. I had them match it to inside the trunk/Deck lid.
No problem. The hardest part without the original formula is figuring out the brilliance and size
of the metallic flake.

Yea I tried with PPG and they said the tints were discontinued for that color. Without a color swab to camera match, theres no way you can find QQ1 unless you have a shop that has those tints left. I thought about having them mix me a half pint, doing a spray out, then camera matching that to an existing color/tint combo. Could always use the spies formula on your gallon also to make the color. :D I was torn between QQ1 and the original dark blue but am leaning towards the original EE1 blue after the sprayout.

Like I said, The colors and tints are not a problem. If the Tech doesn't or can't do the work
you're always gonna get a no. You need to find someone that actually wants to help you.
Graveyard Cars exclusively uses PPG and they have ALL of the Mopar colors.

Here is what I can add. Tested Q1, B5, and B7. Kid wanted Q1. The samples in rattle cans came from Automotive Touchup Specialists and is outstanding paint in both product and application for a can. I have done some cut in and small areas prior to full paint. In sprayable paint, they only offer ready to paint, no activator, so I needed to chase real paint. My local shop is great but Q1 does not show for 68 or 69. The PPG Deltron code below is it. Says 68-70 B5. Very confusing but it is a dead match.

The plate is Q1 left, B5 middle, and B7 right all from the rattle cans. The red circle is the Deltron sample sprayed with those single use aerosols with a jar. I just needed to confirm against the Q1 I have already sprayed. It almost looks like the same can.

I agree 100%

I have used Automotive Touchup rattle cans and it is an excellent product for what it is. A little pricey, but for small jobs, can-to-can it laid out well and it was the correct color.

Did you use their clear as well, BM?

Yes, shot the Auto Spec. clear. Shoots as nice as the base. On both, the top 2/3’s of the can is viable. The bottom 1/3 the spray pattern falls off so I use those for first pass only or trash them.

That license plate labeling is confusing. You said left is Q1 (or QQ1 the 1968 color).
Do you mean ALL the way left, because the Q1 label you wrote is somewhere in the 25% range from left to right, and is splotchy - and a different color than completely to the left. And is the B5 only the small burst that surrounds your B5 label, and not the entire vertical section? But the B7 is the entire vertical right section??
I’m considering the same 3 colors for my Coronet, so am interested in your post

Understand the PPG was sprayed very poorly because I had about one ounce to use.

Thanks for that spray out BMosley, I never realized QQ1 & B5 were that far apart. My car is a QQ1 car someone in the past painted white, I guess to help hide their body work. Now I'm trying to figure out how to fix the color under the cowl grill without cutting it off or going under the dash and cutting that open.

SUCCESS! I found trhe only company on the planet that makes a vinyl dye/paint for
my light blue upper int code "X". Here's a pic of the can and also a pic of the old rear
window trim next to the new painted (originally Black) pieces. I'm so happy I could
just Pee!
