This vehicle was almost completed but they couldn't get it to run. I got it running (makeshift timing marks) but it is having issues with the cooling system. Car will reach running temp in just a matter of seconds. When the motor was rebuilt, they put a water pump on that has inlet on passenger side and covers timing marks. Original water pump had inlet on driver's side. Would this effect the cooling?

The water pump housing probably isn't the issue, later model 400 and 440 engines used the passenger's side water pump housing with no issues. The water pump itself could be the issue, possibly the thermostat or the timing settings. Welcome to the site.

I had to paint marks on the radiator hose to set timing. Close but not perfect
