I am working on a 69 Road Runner I bought about 25 years ago. The previous owner cut a hole in the floor and moved the shifter mechanism next to the seat using a Hurst relocation kit. My goal is the original setup and I have no idea why the cross member wont work. I think the trans is a 1970. Is the trans mount or the shifter mount different on a 1970 4spd trans? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Have you had all of that bolted in your car before except for the shifter location? reason I’m asking is maybe it needs the other crossmember that the mount is on the side of the crossmember. I have that relocation set up in my car for the last 30 years. I can’t remember how close everything was before I put that in there. Good luck.

I believe the 1970 a883 crossmember mounting boss was moved forward.

That is a 70 and later tailshaft. Notice the dual shifter mounting locations. The crosmembers are different prior to 70 as well. Need the crossmember for a 70 as mentioned and it should bolt in.

These guys are correct…the 70+ & 69-back A833’s have a different trans mount location and they’re about 3” different. I also seem to recall that the 69-back use larger through-bolts that bolt the trans cross member to the frame…same hole location. Just swap the trans cross member and your problems are solved

You need a 1966-69 automatic trans crossmember for that 1970 trans.

You can't use a 1970 crossmember because the 4 mounting bolt holes are too small for your 1969 car.

In 1970 the auto and manual crossmember were the same.

Ok it sounds like I need the correct cross member. I was afraid I would need to swap tail shafts after I spent the money to have the trans rebuilt.
The help is very much appreciated! Thanks everyone

as R413 mention if your using a 70 4 speed in a 66-69 B body you will need a 66-69 automatic crossmember. Mopar always used 2 different cross members an automatic , and a 4 speed specific one. In 1970 the standardized the location so only one crossmember could be used between automatic and 4 speed applications.

Hey thanks for the heads up on the reverse rod! I will fix that for sure.
I could not imagine working on a car like this 20-30 years ago. Today we can reach out to people who have had the same problem as you and you can learn from someone elses experience. This site has saved me from much stress and panic attacks and it is very much appreciated.
Thank you to all who offer their experience to the novice!
