I am trying to get back to factory buckets in my 1970 roadrunner. I bought what I thought looked like the right frames because they had the correct latch and back plastic covers but evidently not.
I bought new legendary upholstery for a 70 charger with factory buckets because I like the look of that pattern better. I also bought new foam for a 1970 charger.
The seats that I bought I now believe were from a cordoba or something as they had a bracket welded on for the shoulder belt to hook up to the seat back. (I removed this bracket no problem)
The trouble I’m having now is the back part of the seat was assembled with thick strong foam. But the new foam I bought from legendary is very thin and weak looking. I did some research and realize that the seatbacks I purchased didn’t have the springs like a 70. I have since bought new springs and I will need to adapt them onto the backs I purchased.
Wondering if anybody has a picture of the factory seat back without upholstery so I could see how they have the springs mounted on to the frame.
As always, thanks for any and all help
Dennis

Hello Dennis I too am restoring a 70 RR with bucket seats per fender tag. I'm totally feeling your pain. I picked up a set of 71 RR bucket seats that had upholstery on them. I was under the impression that 70 and 71 buckets were the same just the foam and upholstery were different. I pulled the upholstery off the frames and tuned up the thick factory foam that encapsulates the frame. I bought 70 Legendary upholstery thinking it would hog ring over no problem. Well I’m having problems. Obviously the springs combined with the thin aftermarket foam fills out the upholstery correctly. I’m going to continue to try to build up the foam in areas to make it look better but I feel like I’m either going to have to get 71 upholstery or get 70 frames and foam ( mortgaging my house) to make the new upholstery work. I might be looking to get rid of my 70 upholstery if you haven’t bought yours yet.

Thanks for the reply.
I’ve done more research and decided my frames will work. I just need to mount the 70 springs on them and then the legendary foam and upholstery I’ve already purchased should work correctly. I’m just going to make some little clips to mount the 70 springs onto my frames and weld them on. It will probably come out good it just turned a weekend project into a monthlong project. Good luck with your project. Let me know if I can help.

Just curious, will you spot weld or hog ring an 1/8” rod vertically on the center of the frame as the upholstery has a listing loop to pull the center welt in. If you look at the frames from other vendors the rod is already installed. Ron the installer at legendary said you have to cut their foam down the center to correctly install the upholstery.

Sorry I forgot you are installing 70 charger upholstery. Disregard. My apologies.

I’m currently leaning towards getting the springs mounted then taking it to an upholstery shop and let them install the covers. I’m getting pretty sick of these seats. Lol

I get it. If you want your back seat to match the front buckets I have brand new 70 charger rear seat upholstery I’d give you a good deal on.

Thanks for the offer but I bought everything at the same time. The back seats went pretty well it’s these fronts giving me grief.
