70 RR Radio Delete Trim Plate Question....

Have a 70 RR with rally dash. Want to install a newer single DIN receiver in the dash. Do not want to cut up the stock AM radio trim plate. Been looking around for one for a 70. Have not found one. Year one has a DIN Radio Trim plate for 68-69 RR's. Does anyone know if this will fit in my 70? If not does anyone know of anyone selling them for a 70?

Not real sure.If I were you,I would keep the factory AM radio in place and mount a radio,cd player and/or siriusxm reciever under the seat or behind the dash.Just use a remote to control everything.Any stereo shop should be able to do this.They would know a lot more about it too.

I ordered one of those 68-69 DIN trim plates & sent it back. The screw holes don't line up on my '70. It's also thin plastic and flat, meaning I think there needs to be dash behind it.

I've seen repop 8-track plates for the '70 and I wonder if they come close to a DIN opening. My other idea is to cut a DIN-sized hole in a repop radio delete plate. Either plates are around 80 bucks a-pop, so I haven't done anything yet.

Were you planning on using a DIN cage to mount your radio? I haven't figured out how to mount mine and that old AM radio leaves a big ol' hole in the dash...

Yes, I found the re-pop delete plate in one of the re-pop catalogs for $80.00. Think I will order one, see if it will work for cutting a hole in it and if not send it back..when looking into that you also have to make sure there is space around the mounting hole for the trim plate.....2nd choice would be to make a plate myself out of aluminum.......but yes you do need to use the single DIN mounting cage/frame to make it all work......you need that for the unit to "slide" into place and to be able to get it out also if the need ever arises.
Crutchfield is where I get all my auto stereo gear from. They are very good about supplying everything one needs for installing audio gear in any vehicle.

I have an older radio that will fit a DIN opening but never came with a cage. I've been thinking of different ways to make a bracket/shelf/etc without modifying the dash. Really, I've been doing a lot of thinking about it and no doing. ha

Good point about space for the trim plate. When I bought the RR, it had a factory AM radio (non-functioning) with what looks like a '68-'69 faceplate w/ no screws. I haven't actually seen a '70 faceplate up close.
