Installed our 727 trans tonight but the tail shaft was angled to the right when facing the vehicle back to front under the car. Are the mounts on incorrectly? I had to use a strap to pull the trans straight. It was hard. Or do I need to adjust the mounts?

We just put front end back on last week with rebuilt motor. Everything is pretty much brand new

A slight MISalignment in the engine mount brackets translates to a few inches off center at the tail shaft. Sometimes you need to connect the trans to the crossmember then readjust the engine mount brackets to allow the engine to sit level.

The entire assembly (motor/trans) is "to the right" from the factory. I'm sure fussing with the motor mounts a bit as Kern Dog said is all it should take to make it sit comfortably.

Hmm I need to loosen the bolt holding the mount itself? Do I need to lift the motor to do that? I don't see any way to get a ratchet underneath. Or which bolts should I loosen.

Here's a pic off ebay

I cant see the underside of the mount. Are you working on a '71?? On biscuit mounts, they can slide a bit left and right to level the motor in the oblong holes in the K-frame. Yours might be a little different.

Picture courtesy of Schumacher Creative Services.... maybe a trip over there to look at the various K-frames in the tech section may help you.

Yup its a 71

That looks like my kframe

So I'd at with the bolt attached to the kframe itself and not the engine block?

Yes

Start by loosening the two insulator bolts (One on each side of block , attaches motor mount to K Frame)

Much easier to access the bolts obviously from underneath , very easy to get at

Bolt will go through motor mount , then oblong hole in K Frame , then nut itself that is welded on motor mount
