72 Charger Steering column modification

I did this conversion.
I was unable to source that spring.

Does it work without the spring? I emailed Tony's Parts and they replied it doesn't come with the spring. Seems like an easy part to reproduce and include with the collar.

A potential safety issue to run it without the spring. Should the collar move or remain in the key release position, there is the potential for the wheel to lock if the ignition is switched off while the car is in motion. The original spring is uniquely shaped, a substitute for it would not be impossible to fit however.
