727 / 8-3/4 only turns in one direction

With brake drums off the axle will only turn in the forward direction. Trans is in nuetral. Rear or tranny problem?
69 Charger. Entire drive train was rebuilt. When I last backed it in the garage it took alot of RPM to move the car. I thought there was a brake problem. But after taking off the drums I still cant turn the axles.

remove the drive shaft from the rear........ if problem persists, its the rear

I had that problem in my Belvedere when the pinion nut was loose. My money is on the rear, probably a pinion bearing is bad or a loose yoke. (My yoke was loose because the previous owner had swapped yokes and didn't tighten it down properly.)
Forward motion pushed the pinion towards the trans. In reverse, the pinion tried to screw itself out the back of the housing (towards the rear). It would only move a little before the axle locked up (interference with the ring gear).
