quick question but the details will be neccessary to get to the right answer

My 66 Charger has a 440 with the 727 Transmission
Transmission has a Transgo shift kit installed
with a 3000 stall torque convertor
The car weighs 3800 lbs and has a 3.91 gear
It is driven both on the street and sees trips to the track
The car runs high 11s
The Cam is the 509/292 purple shaft
Operating RPM 3000-6400

I want to put a 6000 RPM governor in the car
(it has a stock early 70s governor)

Car climbs through the RPMs so fast its hard to shift out of first gear without hitting the rev limiter at 6400
So we have been making passes with it in Drive

My question is this:
Are there any drawbacks to the 6000 RPM governor?
will it effect regular drivability on the street?

I had issues using a 5800 rpm governor and a Cope valve body. It would hold the shifts unless I let off on the throttle peddle. No adjustments fixed it. It wasn't until I looked over the directions again that he stated it "needed the stock governor to work" due to increased pressures.

Maybe not the same as the Trans Go kit, but food for thought. You might be better off swapping in a different 1-2 or 2-3 shift spring into the valve body.

What are these shift points wot...1-2 and 2-3?

I would call either Cope Racing Transmissions or A&A Transmissions and see what they recommend. Top notch guys at both shops.

No real drawbacks. But there is no guarantee that it will shift at 6000 rpm. There are other variables, like fluid pressure, and the valve body shift valve springs.

I think the answer to your second question is, it depends.

If you are only looking to increase your WOT shift, simply reduce the weight of your current inner governor weight. This will not change the regular driving shifting.

i used to run my car with auto shift 1-2, and manual shift 2-3. In this scenario you are only concerned with the 1-2 shift with the governor.

Now I leave it in D and both shifts are automatic. This took more effort to get them to shift where I wanted them

If you call anyone, call Rick Allison.

I have a call into A&A
I am waiting on a call back
Make sure to ask their opinion on leaving in drive on the sprag. I imagine sprag type will come up in the conversation.
Are you running the stock shifter? I've run 10.80s with one and yeah, it's pretty finicky.
