727 Slip Yoke

Can anyone tell me if there is a 727 w/30 splines ever come with a keyed spline on the output shaft?
I purchased a billet steel shaft yoke with 1350 u joints and the yoke has a keyed groove...all of my spline on my tail shaft are symmetrical ( un-clocked)...IIRC my trans is a 69

Basically that is a vent to relieve pressure from the sliding action as the suspension moves up and down. Early 727s had a seal on the output shaft and a vent hole in the rear of the yoke to relieve pressure. That style required manually greasing the splines in the yoke as no ATF could reach them.

That is why slip yokes are often referred to as 29/30 spline. They have 29 splines but would have 30 if one wasn't missing.

Can not get into align,, love's the shaft and yoke...had about .0005 clearance +/-

I believe the later O.D. transmission had a slightly different spline that will not fit. I read, a while ago, of some mislabeled slip yokes causing the same problem.

You have to change tail shaft and housing from a 1965 727 . This was the only year that 727 had cable shift and slip yoke. It might be easier to just find a 1965 727 than do the conversion, since everything as to come out of the front of the case to get the tail shaft out . Big block versions can be found in '65 Chryslers. Tail shaft and housing is interchangeable between big block and small block 727. 904 pieces are different.
