I scored a 727 trans and a 440 hp motor this weekend, I have the motor numbers up on another thread but could use some help with the trans numbers. Here's what I got,
bell housing- RS23L9A150867
pan rail- 392093L 2623 7221

Any ideas what I have here? was told it was behind a 440. Thanks, Dan.

You are missing some numbers on the trans. Look again at the number on the pan rail. It is probably PK2892093L. The RS23L9 means it is a '69 GTX with a 440 HP engine.

Somewhere a GTX is missing its numbers matching trans.

I looked at it again and I can see where your probably right, they stamped it to close to the front of the rail so the pk missed the rail. I believe your right with the pk2892093L though, what do the rest of the numbers mean? PK2892093L 2623 7221. then you said the RS23L9 meant 69 GTX with 440 hp, whats the rest of that number mean with that as well? (9A150867), thanks, Dan

For the engine:

RS23= Plymouth Special (GTX) 2 door hardtop
L= 440 1-4bbl HP (High Performance) engine
9= model year 1969
A= Lynch Road assembly plant
150867= build sequence number

For the transmission:

PK2892093= '68 or '69 transmission for a 383 or 440 engine
2623= build date of Wednesday October 2nd 1968 (1969 model year)
7221= this transmission was the 7,221st built that day

On the other side (passenger side) of the transmission case is a flat raised "pad" that should have a VIN stamping on it. I would bet it will match the engine VIN that you have, indicating that you have the original engine/transmission from a 1969 GTX with the VIN number of RS23L9A150867

Thanks to you all, this seems to be a good find for me, I appreciate all your help and input, This should be just what the doctor ordered for a heart transplant for my 65 coronet, Dan.
