I am trying to find the correct amount of transmission fluid to put in my transmission. Also what type is best for 727 torque flight. It is fully assembled in car with converter, does that change the amount needed. What is the best way to change all the fluid, meaning does some stay in the converter when drained, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

My 1972 service manual states 16.3 pints for 400/440 cars, this includes the converter. I use Type F.
Some fluid will stay in the converter, i would start with 5 quarts as Badvert65 stated, let it warm up & go from there.

About 5 quarts with the stock converter already installed. Deep pan takes a few more. Unless your converter has a drain plug. Some early factory ones do.

Yea if its just a trans service about 5 qts and then check it after you warm it up and run it through all the gears. As said if its a deep pan it may want more. When I overhauled 727's and put a converter in them they took about 12 qts to completely fill. When you service them the converter dont drain as they have no converter drain plug so thats one reason it takes alot less. I do remember many Ford's did have a drain plug in their converters but have not seen any in our Mopars. Ron
