Forgive my amature questions. I grew up in the wrong era.
Being a mechanic for my career in today's day and age. I didn't have much experience playing with the cool old stuff like there was back in the day. I bought this car in June and am taking some stuff apart to reseal and make some slight modifications to.
Yesterday I removed the hooker headers to dent them in a few places to stop.them from knocking on the torsion bars. Upon doing so I had to remove the transmission dip stick/tube. Transmission fluid came pouring out the tube hole. I was semi prepared to catch some but not a few liters.
So my question.
The transmission dipstick doesn't protrude past the tube. Is this normal on these old things?
As you can see in the photo this is not the stock trans pan. How does the fluid level work in this set up? Is it still get to temp and pull the stick and adjust accordingly? Does the transmission fluid fill up past the pan and seal?
Again forgive me with my knowledge of the old stuff. Learning as I go with it and having fun. Im upset I only have experience working on new stuff. And yes its dirty under there as im tearing stuff apart haha.
Thanks for your time.
