73/74 RR difference

What are the differences, interior, body, ETC???

bigger bumper guards
seat belt interlock
integrated shoulder belts
different rear panels for above
different gas tank and trunk floor
"icons" for instrument cluster switches
no hood louvers
wiper mounted windshield washers
pressed in ball joints

First thing I did was take off the bumper guards.

metall frame parts prepaired for that ( roof and quarter area behind rear plastic panel )

pressed in ball joints just on lowers... this makes also a diff LCA.

I'm sure there's more

for 74s ( based on my Chargers experience ):

gas tank straps and J bolts fits reversed on 74s, hooking on rear, bolting in front

dunno on Plymouths, but Chargers got diff lower brackets setup for rear bumper guards.

firewall hole for steering column and its bracket totally diff

steering column shaft diff

cowl panel with hole for washer nozzles hose connector

firewall with couple of holes for interlock resset button

underdash, engine and forward lighting harnesses unique for 74s

one common buzzer for all warning buzzing function, instead one diff for every function and controled by the interlock unit control.

horn relay without the key in buzzer function ( just 3 prongs )... moved to the common warning buzzer as explained above.

diff column bracket using 2 attaching points to dash frane area... earliers uses 3 with an extended bracket

diff coat hooks

somewhere in 74 prodction the T handle on floor shifters changed to the round knob.

diff three spoke steering wheels ( padded )

In addition to the above I think the front spring bushings are different for the rear leaf springs
The 74's came with coolant recovery systems - diff radiator cap
The 74 data book says "Movable rear quarter windows are included on Satellite Coupe and Road Runner", but I don't think that one is correct.

The rear lower quarter panel covers are different also. The 73's are one piece while the 74's are two piece to accommodate the shoulder belt retractor.

My back side windows don't have cranks to roll them down, silliest thing I have seen on these cars, cheap *** Mopar engineering!

VIN Rx21 is coupe body, and had fixed rear windows.

VIN Rx23 is hardtop body and had roll down rear windows.

In addition to the above I think the front spring bushings are different for the rear leaf springs

true forgot that!, ALTHOUTH lot of ppl claims 74s got elongated front eye bushings, my 74 got same round front eye bushing with just a THICKER ISOLATOR BUSHING, using an smaller hole for the bolt, smaller bolt thickness and of course diff hanger with just the smaller hole difference to match the bolt assembly

Pic attached showing the minimal diff on bushing thickness and isolation I found but still being round eye, smaller inner diameter but same outer diameter... sorry the bad quality pic, cheap cell phone back in the days. Mounted earliers once by mistake, then I found the one what matches my 74 hanger and bolt, ( left one ) and replaced.

Was the solid over-the-roof portion of the road runner stripe an option in 1974? Based on looking at NOS lists, I thought all 1974 cars had the solid stripe, but I've also seen cars with the strobe stripe, so I don't know if it was a mid-year replacement or an option.

Her is a pic of the front spring eye bushing from my 74 Road Runner. I purchased the car in 1977. It was built in Dec of 73. The rear springs as far as I can tell are original and untouched. You can clearly see it is oval.

yeap I know... always have known that, but however I'm showing what I got... true my car was assemblied in Venezuela not in USA and exported BUT using same USA specs and castings. Maybe is about build date ? dunno.

Fortunatelly my car got round eye kind, available around easier ( bushings and springs itself ).

strange that 74 Plymouth would use an elongated front spring eye. my 74 charger is round, built nov 9 73. maybe the leaf pack had something to with it? I have 7 on both sides.

I'm looking into the parts book numbers for the rear spring options. So far, as far as my Road Runner is concerned all the numbers check out. The rear springs are called out on the build sheet. Do you have a copy of the build sheet for your Charger? If so look at line 5 second block series over from the left and you'll see "Rear Springs" with Lt. and Rt. below. The last three numbers of the production spring assembly will be listed here.
The Road Runners are probably easier to figure out as they all had the same series code "RM". The Chargers could be several different series codes, "WH, WL, WM, WP, etc." Then you have to know the body type, 21, 23 etc.
There is a list of the production springs and the corresponding service spring numbers in the parts book. The number you will find on the broadcast sheet is the production spring number not what you'd order for a replacement. If you can post or PM me the number on your broadcast sheet I can give you the service number, how many leaves were in the pack, and if it was a standard or heavy duty spring set.

Are the floor pans the same? If one buys a carpet for a '74 will it fit in a '73? Do front seat belts bolt in the
same way? Hope I am not jumping this thread. Sorry.

all 71/74s uses same floor panels. carpets diff becomes just on auto or manual cars due the tranny floor hump difference. Yes seatbelts points are the same on floors all years.

carpets are not cut for that anyway, so even if seatbelts were on diff location, you'll have to locate and open the hole by yourself.

All 74 RoadRunners were RM21 (Coupe).
