'73 Coronet Steering Column Rebuild

This is my '73 Coronet so far (hopefully I'm posting this in the right section):

The steering column restoration initially started as a "man this thing steers horribly" to a "well since I'm at it I might as well..." situation. I replaced the upper steering bearing as the old one was obliterated, as well as completely deleting the steering lock. If you look at the picture named "Internals.jpg" you notice there is some scarring on the ignition cylinder that was due to the steering lock so I booted it. Looking back I kinda wish I had gone with a matte black finish but I think it matches the fresh coat of POR 15 I laid down pretty nice.

I fought a battle getting that heat shielded rag joint off (I think that's what it was called). I really didn't want to have to replace that so I opted to delete the steering coupler altogether. Just waiting on some U Joints and 3/4" DD stock to come in the mail so I can get her back on the road. I will be trying my hand at some benchseat reupholstery shenanigans soon
