So I pulled the 318 out, and found that my 77 motor home 440 had an odd oil pan (unusual center sump that is about 1" too far forward to work with my schumaker mounts. Bought a 7qt from 440 source, melling HV, valve covers, starter, etc... summit 440 B body headers, using the short shaft tranny, it's sitting in the frame rails, bolted in ready - now the questions

I have to use A/C Delco R45TS plugs - the heads admit they are 452 - but those plugs don't list with any 440 head - wtf?!
the drivers side header is just BARELY touching the power steering box - I can ding it to work - I haven't gotten the passenger side in - but it looks CLOSE!!!! like seriously 440 in an A body close - any ideas why?
the tranny is the short shaft 727 - the tranny mount bolt holes are about 1/2" further out than the 74 charger 440 tranny mount I bought from the parts store - suggestions?

that's about it.

All of the issues you are describing are covered in the forums on MOPARTs, not sure if on here in the forums or not.
The RV oil pan is one of the changes you have to make first off, the rv tranny as you have found out is not exactly the same for mounting up as a car tranny besides being short.
Also i have heard the rv heads dont flow as good as the stock car heads, dont hold me too this , just heard,,,,,

Research your swap on the websites, you are definitely not the first or last to do it.

I will be doing the same swap in my 69 Satellite with an rv engine and tranny so I Am interested in the issues you have and how you remedy them...

thanks

Jim

yeah the RV pan I wasn't too surprised at - but the odd plug I haven't found ANYWHERE on any forum... but then again I might not be that good at looking =(

the RV tranny issue is easily fixed, and I finally talked to a guy who had done it with a 71-74 charger

I am gonna see about relifting the motor - dropping the passenger side header in before letting the motor down all the way, gonna ding the drivers side header just slightly and then deal with the tranny - with any luck I'll be starting a car tomorrow =)

and for me really the head flow isn't that big of a deal - just means I need to have a few more lbs of boost =)
