8 3/4.......3rd members all the same between A, B, C.....?

Hey Fella's.....Quick question.

Out shopping for rear ends (no...not hookers), and was wondering if all 8 3/4's centers were the same between A, B, C, E bodies?
I know there is 741, 742 and 489 cases, but what i'm referring to is; Is a 8 3/4 741 center in an A-Body identical to a 741 case in a B-Body?

Yep, no difference. People used to get 3.55 or 3.91 741's out of old Dodge vans and put them in whatever.

Now there is an odd duck 8.75" housing but I believe it physically will bolt in and work. It has a different casting number too and looks a little odd, but dimensionally I believe it's the same. This unit is very early C body I believe.

all will bolt in as for the yokes there is 7290 and 7260 size u joints and the yokes for 741 and 742 are coarse spline and 489 are fine spline

Which leads to the question what about swaps between open and sure-grip centers? Do you remove axles, remove the open center, install the sure-grip center, then reinstall the axles?

741, 742, or 489 are ALL GOOD!!!! The 489 has a cone sure grip, while the 741 or 42 has a clutch style sure grip. Get a 742 or 489 for the simple fact more gear ratio's are available. Other than that, burn some tires.
