Gentlemen,

I will be installing steeper gears in my 67 Coronet soon, The car currently has an open diff 8 3/4 rear.

I would like to change out to a limited slip style but there are allot of options out there.

Sure grip cone or clutch style limited slip correct my if I am wrong this is your standard OEM style "posi" in gm speak.

A spool which is not suited to the street at all.

Detroit True track gear driven limited slip supposed to be a sure grip that has no cones or clutches to wear out.

Powetrax lock right locker replaces the spider gears don't really know allot about it.

Any opinions on the options listed above? Anyone go with something not listed?

What would you go with and why? Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions.

clutch style, you can rebuild these, can be found cheaper than detroit or powertrax.

racedodge is correct, clutch style is prob your best choice.i am running a spool on the the street, but i am a lunatic and my ride will probably be sideways more often than strait!:headbang:

I've heard some grumbles about the Powertrax Lock-Right being noisy and jerky on the street. Imo, best to go with the stock SureGrip units. Also, the cone unit can be worked on if it's not a total piece of crap. IE, the case halves need to be in good shape along with the cross pin that the spiders ride on. If the spiders gall to it, then the diff case will be shot. When these things quit grabbing, people just keep on running them and ruining them as a one wheel wonder and they are not going to hold up to that for very long. If anyone has a cone type SG and it's not locking anymore....pull it before you totally ruin it. It can be saved!

I lucked out and bought a used detroit locker 742 case for $400. Perfect shape just had to change the gears; 4.56 a little too much. You might be able to find a deal on a used one. Course if you lived around Mass I could offer you a 489 case 3.55 geared sure grip. Don't think it has 2k miles on it. Be a pain to ship; not cheap.
