8 3/4 ring and pinion question

I think I knew the answer to this at one time but now I guess I'm old and senile. I have a 3.55 ring and pinion from a 741 case. Can they be used in a 742 or 489 case? Is there a difference in the ring and pinion between the open and posi units?

Ring and Pinion must match case. No difference in ring and pinion between sure grip and non sure grip
