A-833 Truck OD 4 speed (9-22-83) fits 76-86 truck/van. Steel shifter mount fits truck, levers are 68-70 B Body, unsure of shifter rods. Hurst handle and shifter body appear to be 68-69 B Body, Tail-shaft same as 70-74E & B (rear not drilled), Trans yoke. Picked up in a bulk sale - I think previous owner was looking to convert and put this in a 69 RR but never followed through (it does not currently have the B-body mounting plate). I disassembled, cleaned/lubed shifter and it works much better. Gears inside look good and shifts well. Will need a gasket kit at minimum.

$700

Can pick up/ship from Portsmouth, VA 23703. PM for more info.

So would these be a direct fit for a factory 74 originally 3 speed manual car. Meaning no modifications to the tunnel etc,,

I had this at Carlisle last year and lots of talk about it - From what I remember the swap may still need a bellhousing. I don't know enough if the 4 speed will bolt up to a 3 speed housing?? You need to find the correct size input bearing retainer or have the bellhousing machined to fit the larger retainer used for trucks. The shifter is already for B-body but I think your 74 uses the same location as E body??, meaning the rear location. This has the bosses for them but just need to be drilled (easy enough) Last thing you would need is the correct shifter mount for your body (Brewers or ebay). Your tunnel is good to go.

I'm about 10 minutes south of the Monitor/Merrimack Tunnel

Yes this will work good in a 74 B body.
Would need a bell housing, and a shifter mount and rods for which setup that you want to use, bench seat versa bucket seats. Also different slip yolk and maybe shorter drive shaft. Tranny mount will work.

That shifter setup is for truck. Earlier and later B bodies both use different rods and mounts. Could probably use the shifter mechanism itself but the reverse lever is different and might make shifting in and out of reverse harder.

I used a truck shifter with 71-74 B body "bench/buddy seat" mount and rods.

It worked fine.

I think @RR Fan Dan has buckets/console, which would use different mount/rods.

My car has already been converted to a A833 4 speed from the original 3 speed. It’s a 440 with bench seat and a hurst shifter with pistol grip. So I am assuming the things you mentioned above have already been done. My question about fitting was mainly tunnel clearance since it came out of a van and if all my other stuff would just bolt up.

I have the hurst shifter already on a standard A833. Will that work?

No tunnel clearance needed. It is a 833 just like your current transmission. You will either need to cut down the bearing retainer to fit your bell housing or open up the bell.

Your shifter will work, the dog bone will bolt onto the same spot. You will need to flip the 4th gear rod as the OD trans lever is opposite. Might need to modify that rod and or the lever. Set it up on the bench so you can shift through and adjust as needed.

All said and done I bought the Passon OD gear set for my 70 since I need to rebuild the trans anyway.

Looks like you already have the hard work done - the big wild card is just the input shaft retainer diameter issue. Hoping someone can chime in whether you can just swap the one from your existing 4 speed or if some machining may be required. It was already mentioned about the shifter lever position, and you can see this in one of the pictures. Pretty sure the shift pattern changes - what was 3rd gear is now OD and 4th gear becomes 3rd. Looks like you will end up with another shifter and truck brackets - ebay...
