A dumb question, but I gotta ask.

I have a ‘70 Coronet with high back buckets and buddy seat. Originally auto, on the column. Can I switch to a console and stock auto floor shifter, or is the buddy seat in the way?

Buddy seat has to go the console is long and ends at the rear of the seats. You would need a set of console brackets as well as the floor shift linkages and shifter. Also if you dont want the column shifter then you would either need a column for a floor shift car or I think someone sells just a collar to get rid of the column shifter.

Consoles are overrated. Expensive, misaligned, rattle, and collect junk. $$$ better spent elsewhere.

Buddy seat cant be beat. With the console there is no comfortable place for the right elbow on long drives.

When I converted my 70 RR from a console automatic to a 4 speed, I eliminated the console and installed a buddy seat for the exact reasons above !!!!

Dennis H forgot to add that the back plastic piece that is the only place to rest your elbow ALWAYS cracks on the console. I think those are one of the worst designed parts from Ma Mopar !!!!

Sadly all of the items above would cost close to 800.00 and you would still need the console, the tops, the end plate, the chrome strips for the carpet, wire harness, lights and the carpet. And I think I have seen complete repop consoles for like 1200.00.. So thats 2 grand for a piece of plastic. Yikes..

Cheapest way out is to find a donor car with all of the stuff and just replace whats bad.

I guess getting your lady to sit closer to you isn't a good enough excuse to put one in

No greater truth was ever spoken. Look how many agree.
I don't know what would happen if modern day cars eliminated this creature comfort. There would be a massive boycott. As you get older, you realize a column shift and a comfortable place to rest your arm are very important, as much as a sporty console looks good but...
