Does anyone know if the new style A518 Ribbed trans pan will fit my 1969 Coronet w/383? I know it will bolt up, but will I need to buy an extension for the filter pick up? Also will the pan hang too low (my dodge is lower 1 inch in the front). Or any other recommendations for a perpetually leaking transmission?? (it is the pan leaking and not a front seal/dipstick tube or shift linkage, and I have tried different style gaskets, with little success) Thanks for any info!

The pan will work and yes you do need an extension. Measure what the difference in depth is between the two pans and you can order an extension from either Pro Trans in Lancaster or A&A Transmission in Indiana. The 98- pans are deeper than the -97 units because they use a different filter. The -97 pan was about the same as the stamped steel MP pan in depth. Find a trans shop that builds 518/618's for trucks with diesels. They may have a pan you can get for low bucks after someone has upgraded to a deeper cast aluminum pan and you can get the discarded unit. Also go to the dealer and purchase the newer style, formed gasket. 2464324ac I think is the number. You will need to buy new pan bolts too as the gasket is thicker and the replacement bolts listed on the TSB are like two threads longer to help the trans case from being stripped out. Don't remember the number for the longer bolts. Some one at the dealer can get them looked up when they run the old gasket number through the system and it will give you the new number for the gasket and the bolts. Same applies to the 904 series of trans.

Thank you! That is great information! I will update this as I get the parts.

While you have the pan off, consider changing the O ring on the low band pivot shaft. It goes through the outside of the case, with an O ring. They will leak down onto the pan rail, and looks like it's the pan leaking. Not as hard as it sounds to change. Check out the FSM.

or,you can go to the local parts yard and take all of this off an old mid/late 80-s dodge van....
