Have my gearbox torn down for rebuild so far it’s been a straight forward process. It needs bearings for sure and the synchros looked good but will replace them while I’m here as well
as the needle bearings for the counter gear. Got all the parts from Passon and Brewers both
have been great folks to deal with. Toughest part of the whole process so far was getting the housings clean inside. Here’s some pics of the whole mess:lol:

nice, hope all gos easy. What do you think the rebuild will cost you when finished? Were having problems with it before tear down?

,Mine was worn , 90,000 miles. I hand filed all my slider splines. Also repointed the ends of the clutching teeth with a small cut off wheel in a Dremel. Made them look like a house roof peak. By far the best shifting 833 I've ever driven. Turned me into Ronnie Sox when I pound on it.

It was doing fine had a leak at the reverse shaft
so once I tore it down that far may as well check bearings and synchros. Synchros looked good but
Im on the side of while I’m there replace them.
Once I removed ,cleaned and dried the bearings they were rough and noisy so time to replace them.
Cost was around 250 for gaskets and parts I replaced the counter shaft and needle bearings
both main bearings and synchros. The case and tail housing was full of metal so glad I got all of it cleaned out and I mean every crook and crevice!
Also disassembled the clutches and cleaned every part in there. Got a 493 stroker in the works to put it behind so it needed to be in tip top shape.

So I found gear oil in this one what do you guys run in them

My Mom came in the garage several years ago and said “how in the world do you get around in here with all this junk?” So she bought me the sign.

20W50 engine oil.. has never shifted so smooth. :) (remember it's like booze, that equals 40W cold... 100W hot.) Just remember DO NOT use HYPOID oil... it'll eat your bushings!

hypo oil = differential oil or what says gear oil use oil marked for synchromesh
latest Japanese spec oil works good as does good synthetic like redline

Really nothing to rebuilding these things is there? I do them in an afternoon myself --

I usually run gear oil 85/90 usually - Seems to work just fine - I have about 5 of them sitting under my shelving unit in my shed -

I am about to paint my A833 transmission for my '69 RR and wanted to confirm if the 'plate' that the shifter arms goes thru is painted a different color?

They were left bare cast from the factory. All depends what you want, painted mine "twinkle dinkle" so it doesn't rust.
