A883 4 speed

Okay guys i have the side case off my 4 speed and i notice 1 thing when i move the reverse linkage back to put the box into reverse the linkage does not come anywhere near touching the reverse sensor ball on the plug, Is it supposed to touch it or does it work some other way?

It should make contact with the plunger.
