Advice needed - how does one sell a car being used as collateral on a loan?

all I'm told is
"you're over-qualified".

The last company that I had worked for, for years, went bankrupt and I was laid off permanently leaving me to look for new employment. I was really getting the runaround with interviews that I was going to. After awhile I started to notice a common denominator. Talking with others my age a lot of companies don't want to hire anyone over a certain age. The first thing being the benefits are going to cost them twice what it cost them to hire someone half your age. I remember my insurance rates doubling during the last administration and all of the younger guys in my workplace had theirs drastically cut.

Each summer my workplace had layoffs to get them through the slow periods. They laid off all of the elderly employees disregarding their knowledge and expertise. When we were called back we would have to wait months for the enrollment period just to get your benefits back. And the real kicker was the same projects were still sitting there waiting for "the experts" to come back and finish them.

I did find a great place to work after leaving the last one, working through a temp agency, doing quality control. After nine months the workload was caught up and I was laid off there. Three young people were hired permanently in my department right before I was given the axe. WTF?

Dealing with RA for a long time I decided to apply for Disability and I was awarded it in three months. Forced into retirement before I was ready to. Not liking it but it's the best I can do. I'm getting by.

Damm it Ed I wish I could help, hang in there man.
i dont....
everyone has problems, esp now in Covid times.
the question asked was so basic it seems more like he wanted to reel people in rather than ask a legit question.
thats just my opinion, but i dont care for pity parties and esp dont care for fishing expeditions for Donations...Again.

why not start a go fund me page to save your car ed,instead of hoping these members will keep saving you from yourself.....?

Easy. Do the transaction at the bank or credit union holding the note.

I do if I could and why? Ed is a good man, he's being through a lot of health issues, tecnicaly dead at least once, lost his job last year, No I DON'T pitty him, but all at least once in our lives we got the wagon stuck in the mud, and we need help to get it out, we don't live in a society rule by the jungle laws, I admire Ed because like all of us including you, he keep rowing against the stream, despite all, he's fighting, he's not asking for money he's asking for advice and the very purpose of this site is to provide it, in cars or in life, I always love this quote of Hemingway:

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

The part were we all part of the humanity, a man's grieve affect me as affect all others here, humanity and compassion is all what we need to make this world better.

Easy dude, Ed is a good man and he has never asked anyone to give him anything but a chance to work and earn a living. Seems like you may have guilt issues. Just MO.

try reading his former posts.....before you rush off to judge me.
thanks.

I never judge anyone, Thats up to the big guy in the sky.
What I can say is your posts kinda took me off guard. I have known Ed on here and other sights for years. I think going back to 2004.
I have seen him help many many folks, one that sticks in my mind is a mutual online friend we had that had a grandson dying of cancer.
Just a little guy about 3 yrs old. A very long and drawn out slow death for a special little man we will call lil joe.
Guess who was up to his elbows helping our friend through many different channels and I am sure $$ wise like all of us were.
Ed was one of the main guys keeping that drum beat week in and week out for well over a year.
{ Ed , sorry to post this stuff but many on here dont really know you }
I did not have to but did as you said and looked back on Eds posts. He has asked advice on job searchs, he has been gifted a crap load of chips and from another member a mopar duffle bag oh and god forbid someone gifted him a gold membership.
I figure he is the 1st member that has had that happen.
Many of us are more private about health and family. Some folks like Ed I think it helps them to talk their way through it. I have always felt that Ed has many friends and what he considers family online.

He posts about success and about fails, helps others when he can and asks for advice or auto related help when needed.
The old fart even sent me a christmas gift one year. I have never ever heard him ask for one ******* dime from anyone.
There is a family in Arkansas and one little guy in heaven who know exactly who Ed is.
So nope mr beater not going to judge you. You have done a pretty fair job of that already.

You're the only one doing any judging here, hoss. I asked a straight up question, never having done this sort of thing before and knowing others here have.
If you're inclined to help answer the question, great.
If not, that's fine too.
Nobody asked your opinion on anything other than that.

Easy. Do the transaction at the bank or credit union holding the note.
Thanks. Yes, that would obviously work if the person was local (or if for some reason, they were willing
to travel here). I'd just imagine most folks interested in buying the car would be from out of the area,
so I was wondering how that works - which turns out, kinda a leap of faith I guess on their part.

Thank you my friend, I appreciate the kind words. You're right, I'm not "fishing" for anything other than
advice (legal maybe?) or instances where others may have sold a car under similar circumstances, so that
I can hopefully not screw it up.
Anybody else wants to read anything else into this, well, that's their hang-up, not mine.
I'm actually quite thankful I'm in a position to still be above water at this point - I still have my family, friends,
homestead and I'm still above dirt. :)
If it takes selling a car to keep going, that's what will happen.

Come on now brother, you're making me tear up here....
The hardest thing in the world for a fella to do is accept the help of others, true enough.
I know that more than most - and yeah, anytime I see something or someone that I think needs it and I got it, it's theirs - that's why we're all on the planet to begin with!

Good Lord, Granparkie and Lil Joe.... absolutely the most gut-wrenching story I've ever witnessed. A better family you'll never find - and his grandpa does so much good for
everyone around him, too.
You talk about heart, that little fella had more than most of us ever will...

Our mutual friend John down in AL (who himself has seen some seriously hard times,
especially after those historic tornados a few years ago) was incredibly charitable and
kind to that family in those days, among others.
We all got to see the REAL power of the internet then - people from all over, who never would have otherwise even have met, came together for a cause and it was wonderful.
Some of you folks still hang out over at the ebmdb including you and Granparkie, helping strangers when you don't have to. I have all the admiration in the world for people like
you folks - you "GET" it.

It's sort of like when we took the GTX down to the regional car show recently for the cancer benefit. I didn't see why they wanted me there (invited) since I'm not affiliated with the clubs down there and the GTX is just a GTX, but they did, so for the price of the gas, we went.
We get there and the director of the show wants me to be interviewed for that Knoxville
TV station and again, I'm asking "why me? I ain't nobody and I sure am not a public speaker - kinda homely, too".
Then it occurs to me - I'm the "poster child". Kind of turned me off to the idea at first, really.
I'm one of the unworthy lucky ones, after all - so many have suffered more, obviously.
My wife straightened my *** right up on that one, though...
She said it didn't matter why they were asking - if they thought I could help, then I needed to shut up and help.
I did as I was told.
The interviewer, a nice young man, hands me the mic and starts asking questions and it's pretty obvious on camera I'm uncomfortable with the whole thing.
It's the usual fluff questions and pleasantries, but then he asks something like "what my secret was to not giving up" or some such.
That struck me funny and I kind of got a little taken aback, so I gave the answer they used on their newscast later on:
https://www.wbir.com/article/news/1...wport/51-a05d4ff1-66e4-46a8-8a5d-e80fedba1a77

I'm not quitting here - there are finally signs of life and hope out here, so I'm sure things
will get better in the near future.
I'm not looking for help - SO many people have already done so, for which I'll always be grateful.
I'm just asking for advice from others who have done this sort of thing, that's all.

Thank YOU as well, my friend. :)

Please, guys.... just advice on the question, ok? This is hard enough....
Maybe one of you banker/financial whiz types can help me with the
fundamentals of such a transaction?
OK...Here's my advise:
I would if possible, pay it off yourself first. Then get the title released back to you. Then if and when you are selling and have a buyer and $$$'s in hand, you transfer the title to him. Easy Peasy!!! Less hassle and headache for both parties...JMHO...cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:

Ed is an asset to the forum and posts far more worthwhile content than I have seen from you. His writing skills compared to yours are akin to a 440 Charger to a slant six Monaco.
I saw no trolling for donations here or elsewhere.
Go back to beating off, a habit that a loner surely is adept at doing since it requires no friends.

If I could, I would have sir. The question is due to the fact I cannot...
Thanks, Ed

You can see in him the spark that only a child have in his eyes...

You could swap out the X for another asset of equal loan value, maybe a daily driver that's hasn't a lien.

Good luck my friend
Thanks, but that would then put that ride in jeopardy pretty quick, too. :)

I don’t know Ed but I will say this. From what I’ve read on here, I would be lucky to know him! I don’t understand how people judge others when they should be looking in the mirror every morning and judging themselves. I’m not anywhere close to being perfect but I do try and be the best I can be. My wife says I’m too trusting and maybe I am. But I know even though I’ve been taken financially, emotionally, and physically at times, there are many good people in this world. This is a crazy world we live in today. One of the things missing today I think is empathy and respect. We all will answer one day for our actions. I hope I can have my chest out and my chin up when that day comes. You sir from what I’ve read here, are a prime example of what this world needs more of! Take care and God bless!
