Alternator Verification for 1969 Charger

I have a 1969 charger 383 car. I recently took my alternator to a local auto electric shop and had them inspect the alternator as my battery was not charging (also checked grounds, volt regulator, etc). They said the only thing that need to be repair were the brushes. I put the alternator back on the car and it is still only charging at 12.31 volts. I contacted the shop that did the repairs and when I told him what year my car was and what voltage regulator I had on the car, he said my alternator was not the original one as it was for a 1970+ Mopar. It has two connection points, and he told me for the 1969 mine should only have a single connection point. He said he could fix mine to a single if I wanted to bring it back in. Was hoping to get confirmation help on if mine is in fact not for a 1969. Below are pictures of the alternator, with the numbers that are on it. Also included pic the voltage regulator. I am $35 in on the brushes replacement and do not want to go in more dollars until I verify what I have. Second question is if this is not the correct alternator, than is it even worth repairing (i.e. should I just buy a new one)?

Yes that is a dual field alternator 1970 and newer.

You can fix it at home for free. On one of the field terminals run a wire to ground. Then it will work on your 1969 car. This won't hurt anything. The alt shop would remove the insulating washer and cut off the tab so no wire could be put on there.

The voltage regulator needs to be bolted to the car for a ground or it will go to 16 volts all the time. Not good.
 
I saw that too, but the repair shop said the alt works.
You are correct in that he did run a test and everything was good except brushes.i actually just ran it back by the place and the guy modified the field terminal as you noted (no charge). I’ll hook it back up this evening and will follow up. Thanks for the info guys!

Well, it’s at 13.11 volts better than it was before but doesn’t seem to get up to 14 at idle.
 
The voltage regulator definitely needs a good ground connection to work properly, and try revving it up to around 2000 rpm to see if it gets closer to 14 volts.

Got it. Will
They are low output at idle.
So what does it do at certain rpms. 1000 2500 etc
I’ll find out and will follow up

I double check the voltage regulator ground again. I’ll get the rpm’s up and will post what it does.
