Bought a 71 Chrysler New Yorker with charging problem. There was a new Alternator fitted but this did not Charge. installed a old used one and still the same.

Can it be Wrong wiring? Both Alternators have two FLD Connection and One battery. It Receives 12.8 V from battery and both FLD are connected with the wires in the Picture.one green and black and blue spliced together ( from external voltage regulator and ignition?) any ground wire? are the FLD connection interchangeable for the wires?

Yep Thats is how i have connected it. The FLD port were the Single green is connected reads 12.5V while running and not connected to green and the Other FLD port have 0 Volt when the Black and Blue is not connected.

Black/ Blue reads 12.5 Volt (while Running not connected to alternator)
Single Green reads 0 Volt (while Running not connected to alternator)

Well, By simply "spinning " the Alternator it should produce Electro Motive Force (EMF)
It is a simple design.
It works or doesn't work.

Now: Have you checked with your DVM (Digital Volt Meter) right at the Alternator?
You should have ABOVE 13.5 volts coming OFF the Alternator.

So, assuming you have performed tis step:
Now check voltage at Regulator.

Again, no voltage at Alternator=Bad Alternator

Digital Volt meter reads only 12.5 Volt at Alternator. ill send a picture of the regulator. The Blue one From Regulator (F) is Going to one of the FLD on Alternator together with black wire.

Where am i going to check the Voltage at the Regulator?

Yes.. shematic look like the same. i only suspect bad ground or defect regulator. I sill wonder if the FLD Connections on alternator is Interchangeable ( if i can choose where to put the wires) ive only tried like it was from start, the same FLD with the same wires.

No alt charging could be bad ground on the voltage regulator. The regulator case needs GOOD ground. Sand the paint paint from firewall & regulator & make a SECURE connection.

The regulator was grounded good and installed a extra ground cable from Regulator to Alternator but no change.

This measure is when the engine is Running....

I grounded one of the field on alternator shortly. then i measure 15.5v output. I got a bad Regulator.

green is negative REGULATED THROUGH REGULATOR, blue is positive coming from ign swith in RUN. You'll never read voltage between green and chassis since only could read some ohms due the regulator is on the way, but no voltage. Is the same signal.

Only way to read some output from green is leading againts positive source. It can be either battery or blue wire itself, but allways with key in RUN position, because regulator will turn on and off with key signal.

Charging systems up to 69 ( one field or prong ) are regulated oposite, by positive source, being negative feeded by the alt chassis ground itself ( brush attached directly to alternator housing ) .

Being told this, the green wire is allways, no matter if positive or negative according with the year, the source being regulated.
