A picture of the housing you are talking about would be helpful.

Well, I don´t have a picture of said thing and can´t see how I can be more specific than mentioning
partnumber and all.
If you know you know I guess...

I thought they were cast iron. Maybe early housings?

Getting your thermostat housing to seal.
No matter if it is steel , aluminum or cast pot metal.
They have to be flat.
New repop ones are crap old ones are warped. Many of the pump housings are not flat.
Take a straight edge and check your pump housing, Some need a little filing.
Take a stat housing and a sheet of 180 on a flat surface and check it.
Once both are true use you gasket and do not over tighten.
One last thing, many of the old cast housings will have worn threads and will not hold.

Watch for pits in the aluminum. They are the softest metal in a big block, so they tend to be sacrificial, like a small block timing cover.

Thank you all for your response.
Appreciate it.

Whatever you do, don't get those cheaply-chinese made chrome repro ones, they are guaranteed-leak garbage.

No problem here. I had originally used a Billet housing and it warped in no time. Started a thread on here and member @Cranky sent me a used oem part # 2780970 and its still doing good after almost five years.

A must use sealant. Follow the instructions to the letter.

A bit pricey though but looks good. Machining one on a manual machine would be somewhat labor intensive but someone with a CNC machine might could whip one out fairly fast.....?

I purchased 2 years ago and they are quality pieces.
