So i found an oversight today on my Roadrunner that i specifically asked the body shop to fix, well, here is the back story.

On thing i wanted replaced on my RR were both trunk extension end caps. Well, back in November, i went to see the car before it went to final paint, and i guess i should have checked or inspected the car more closely, but i was so geeked up to see her, i didn’t look at every detail. So, he gave me back the sheet metal for the end caps, said they were in good shape.

Well today, i was working on the rear brakes and had the rear wheels off, and noticed that the end caps on both sides appeared to have a coating of stuff on them, but after further inspection, and just a poke with the finger nail, it was rust! After grinding off the suspect area, i found that both sides are completely rusted and were never fixed.

So, i called the body shop to discuss this problem, and basically he said that he was not going to fix it unless i paid him more money, then proceeded to get sideways with me and that i was the pickiest ******** that has ever been in his shop as he claims and nobody has ever complained about his work, even those that have had 60K of work done. Well, i certainly didnt pay 60K, but was well north of 12K!!!! Well, this pissed me off and i fired him and told him to bring back some other stuff he still had, and i would go find someone that could fix it properly.

So, was i justified in calling him out to fix this at no additional cost?

Pictures of the unfixed area below.

most definitely justified....cant trust no one anymore :(

You are justified. Especially if you provided the new pieces and he later handed them back saying they wern't needed. He out-n-out lied to you. Did you bring the car back to him so he could see what you were referring to? Maybe one of his 'trusted' employees told him they were good and he didn't verify it himself?

Oversight? thats putting it mildly to say the least.Who is this guy? what shop does he own? spread the word far and wide. He wants to call paying customers names like that. Hit him where it hurts, his customer base.

I'd be a little ticked off myself.

You are more then justified in calling him and asking him to re-do this. If the parts where there to start with that should have clued him in that it needed fixing.

My dad when he had a shop gave a heck of a deal for a paint job. This was a full paint job on a 67 Chevelle. When my dad got the car in he saw all the rust problems it had and told the guy he would be better off finding another car and using this one as a parts car. The guy said no its just going to be a driver for now and I just want a nice looking paint job. They guy bought the paint, picked out the color and brought it in and had my dad just spray the car.

When car was done it looked like there was nothing wrong with it at all. I mean you saw no rust no inperfections in the car. The guy got sideways and went off on my dad. He didn't pay and my dad kick him off the grounds. The guy said my dad put the wrong color on the car (The guy picked out the paint, had it mixed, paid for it and brought it to my dad) and just kept cussing my dad.

To make a long story short he sued my dad and my dad told him if he (the owner) would sand the car down he would spray the car for him but if he said that it was the wrong color again he could shove the car sideways.

The guy comes back with the paint and its a complete different color. My dad was like what is the deal so he calls the guy and said that is the right color. He called the paint store and asked them and he said "The guy hated the first color it was to dark and didn't look right on the Chevelle." My dad went through the roof when he found that out.

The best part of it was when the guy picked it up after my dad painted it the second time and telling the guy to get the piece of junk off the lot. He also told them that the wiring harrnes would cause a fire. The guy gets in and turns the key and sets there running it for a while and look the car over happy as he can be. Smoke starts boiling out from under the dash. The fire went from the dash to the engine bay and destored the car.

My dad and his guys in the shop helped put the fire out and looked at the guy and said I guess you will be looking for a better Chevelle. The guy asked can you fix it? My dad said "Not a chance I will ever do work for you again. If that is not off my lot by the end of the day it will be towed."

He tried to spread the word that my dad did bad work but was shot down at all the car shows he went to. Half the cars there were painted by my dad.

So to sum up for you you're justified and I would go after them for payment to have the work re-done.

I agree

Oversight is being way too nice I would call it cheated. I would never give this guy a chance to work on my car again. I would bad mouth the SOB the rest of my life.

Truthfully if he did this kind of work then I wouldnt let him redo it even if there was no cost involved. If he did this type of work & got paid to do it then it only makes me wonder what kind of job that he would do for free. I have been burnt the same way & thats the reason that I now do ALL my own work. Even though it may be a task Iv never performed. The way I see it,if I screw it up then Il fix it & maybe learn something along the way.

Yep, i asked him to bring back the remaining stuff i have at his shop, because i will have someone else do it right. To make things even more interesting, he originally steered me away from a shop that that has a history of doing incomplete work like this to get my business, then turns around and does something just as lame as that other shop.

Not only are you justified, but I would be worried about what other corners he may have cut to make an extra buck. At the very least he should repair these areas for you. Did anyone else hear him tell you that the corners were in fine condition and didn't need repair? He got caught lying to you and should be worried that you may seek some legal advice.

Its pretty much just words, but at least i saw the major work on the quarter panel when it was bare metal, and it was quality work, so i dont know what his problem is all of the sudden.

I agree with all, and i think spending that kind of money i would seek some legal action! Its down right irresponsible to not fix this especially when you asked him to and then he lies to you.

If he is comfortable putting his name on that, then put his name on it when you show it. Maybe a sign with arrows would please him. I had the same thing happen to me years ago. I took it to another shop, and had it done over. over But in the long run I got my pound of flesh. He could have done it right for the same money, but look what it will cost him now. And yes the name of the shop is in order here, save someone else this trouble.

We will see if he returns my other stuff first before dropping his business name. I don't want him touching the car again after his attitude today. I got another place I can call tomorrow and see what it will take to fix. This is why I like doing my own work on things, and have done as much as I can on this project.

Thanks to everyone here for the support, lots of great folks here!

what did that area look like after it was blasted , I couldn't remember if you had blasted the underneath :icon_scratch:

Unfortunately, i didn’t look at or take pictures of that area, as there was some much other stuff that i had to check, but the car was on a rotisserie and completely media blasted, so I’m not sure how he missed that area, because he did repair work on both quarters.

Shady shop. Whatever happened to honor, keeping your word and taking pride in doing a job right? Some scumbags will do anything for a buck. Sorry this happened to you. Maby the guy will get cancer and the doctors will do as good of a job removing it as he did to your car. Good luck!
