Am I ruining my car?

What your friend actually means is you are destroying the appeal for him. You could paint the car pink and put Hello Kitty decals on the hood and it would still appeal to a part of the population.

Just look at the Fast & Loud Rule. Almost every episode, Aaron Kaufmann would use that "the attitude is in the altitude" as he would always try to get his cars as low to the ground as possible because "that's what everyone wants." Then they go to auction and the car barely sells. There is no one look that appeals to everyone, so make your car look the way that appeals to you.

One fine summer day last year I was out in the garage fitting the 66 T Bird rear lights into my 67 Coronet's modified rear face and the Fed Ex delivery guy rolled into the driveway. He walked around to the back of his truck and noticed me working. His thoughts after looking for a moment were thus; " Man, your really ******* up that classic car aren't you?" I studied him for a second and replied, " Are you a Ford guy, or what?" We have been friends ever since. He's a Chevy guy. I got the same responses as you have when I asked on here for opinions about the Express, and I have not looked back.

My 73 Charger that I am putting together for a daily driver was a 318 SE, and I added a bunch of 71 Charger parts, a bulge hood, and so old school mags, and I got this. 73/74 Chargers need the biggest tires that can be stuffed under them to look cool!

100% 73-74 chargers have hugggeeee wells

Worst thing that could happen is 10 years later wishing you did this or that. Build the car the way you want it.

If you have a high dollar car you may want to think twice about doing something that's difficult (expensive) to reverse .. but not being the case I would do what I want ..asking opinions is cool, to get a view from another set of eyes, but bottom line, its my car and money I'll do what I want

You aren't the only one! All my buddies are giving me crap for turning my "nice driving" 64 into a superstock 60s look. Jacked up, moon tank in the grill, Cheater slicks, and bias front runners! Hell im with you man! delete the back seat, it will look awesome!

I would do the same, love the ss 60s style

What you've done so far looks good. I personally wouldn't remove the back seat. That's what chevy guys do, including an aluminium dash, and gutting everything they can so they can run 12s. If the back seat is what's keeping you from going fast, you may need more power. It's just my opinion, but I am way more impressed with a fast car that isn't gutted.

IMO Hell NO !!
you're not ruining your car...

I personally like it "much better" than it's previous look,
but that's just me...

"Build it how you want it, use whatever parts you deem necessary,
drive it like you stole it, who cares what other people say or think
"

It's your car, have fun, that's what counts, "screw the naysayers",
or just ignore them, it's only you, that needs to approve or be pleased...

heck I even had a friend tell me I should put a newer hemi in my 67 r/t with all original metal 36k numbers matching car he said it would add value. everyone had a opinion and it seems they ALL want to express them about are cars!!! I REALLY!!! just love it when someone at a show tells me everything I did wrong with my car and then drives away in a 25 yr old honda just love it

Look up Roland Leong and his Hawaiian drag Charger, all you need to know. He raced back in my youth, I loved the look on his Charger

My take is that you are ruining your car. You are making it yours, that is fine. You just have realize when you sell it, it will be worth 5 cents on the dollar because few others like what you did to it.

Huh?

It certainly does NOT look too different from my "Stock" 70 Bee.....

Please, for the billionth time... these cars were not left stock. The only time I saw these cars still stock, is when they rolled into the garage I worked in, to make them UN-STOCK. Like, the day after they were bought (where the term "day-after" or "day-two" originates). Wheels were the first to go into the garbage.

I absolutely agree with this. Tubbing out a rare / valuable classic, turning a numbers matching hemi car into a full drag car or something nuts like that is a waste.

Bolt ons, paint, or a cage that can be removed (or yanking the numbers hemi and racing a different motor)... no brainer - do it.
