I have a 1964 Plymouth Savoy, I used to do this in the day but forgot the proper way to rewire. Some time ago I saw an article on what to do, drill holes in firewall connector, replace the original power and ground wire going into car. I don't remember what positive wires you connect the new larger gage wire to under the dash.

There is not a ground wire going threw the bulk head connector. The big black wire is positive, as is the red wire. To by pass the amp gauge you tie them together. You can put them on the same post of the ampmeter, using it as the junction block. And take the positive from the alt to the battery. There might be more to it on the firewall side, but I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me right now.

Do a search here. There is tons of info on this topic. I did my road runner about 3 months ago.

Dont forget you will need to hook up a voltmeter so you can moniter the charging system. The ammeter wont work anymore. Ron

If it does not start, it is not charging. Sure beats a fire.

Thanks for the info, used the article to rewire, works great, added a voltmeter and it shows great voltage, thanks again, Ron.
