Every state has different rules... but most have away where you send it off to DMV they authenticate the plate and through special exception you can run the original plate...
For example Florida... the 10 indicates Broward county the W/W is for passenger cars under 4500 pounds then the registration # a 1967 model year requires a plate validation for that year.... in my case a W which is for under 3500 pounds would be more exactly appropriate and my car was originally registered in St.Petersburg not in broward where I live.... but its the happiest medium I found.. the state may allow any plate with the correct date.. but a motorcyce or trailer or semi tractor or something else may be allowed would look off.... I may never run the plate but its cool wall art or for a show.... just another thing to think about... and for the outlaws it wouldn't ever get stopped... from what I was told anyway because I would never knowingly break the law... LOL
