After looking in amazement at onebadmk8's AWESOME scale models, I got to wondering if there were any other diecast collectors here on FBBO. I have been collecting 1:18 scale (and smaller) cars and trucks since 1998 and now have a collection that numbers over 700 and still growing. :)

Mopar muscle cars and race cars make up about 80% of my collection, with the rest being various race cars, 1965 and 1966 Shelby Mustangs, 1965 and 1966 Shelby Cobra's, a few misc AMC's, Fords and Chevy's and a bunch of the original 1:18 scale "Muscle Machines". I also have some Dodge NASCAR trucks and cars, along with a few other Dodge trucks.

The pictures posted below were taken a few years ago after I had remodeled my fanily room to showcase my collection and before I got my digital camera. If anybody is interested, I can take some more updated pictures that will show lots of cars that have been added since these photo's and if anyone has a certain car that they would like to see and I have it, let me know and I will take pictures of it for you.

So, am I the only diecast collector here on FBBO? If not, I'd love to see what you've got!:grin:

I'm not a diecast collector, but enjoy building plastic model Mopars. Can you share any details on onebadmk8's scale models? I haven't built in awhile (just finished our basement and now have space again) and am looking for a little motivation to get back to building.

Here's a quick link to some stuff I have in the works: http://public.fotki.com/68383/

Thanks,

Here's a link to one of his threads here on FBBO, but you might want to PM him and I'm sure that he would be happy to talk with you about the cool Mopar plastic kits. ;)

I love'em! Started collecting when Ertl started the musclecars in 91 or so. I just recently got them out to display. It's really nice to see them out instead of in boxes. I've sold 50 or so just because I don't really have the room.

kidsixpack,

It looks like you have some NICE cars and trucks in your collection! Do you have any favorite cars you like to collect? If so, I would be very happy to let you know when cars that you're looking for are being released, as I am friends with the awesome folks at Supercar Collectibles www.supercar1.com and keep up on all of the new cars coming out.

a12superbee,,

I wish they made a lot model kits in 1:18. I haven't done a 1:24/25th in years, the pieces are to small to see anymore. lol

I hear you! My eye sight sucks also and that's why I switched to the 1:18 scale diecast. I know folks who buy 1:18 scale cars and then take them apart and customize them. The diecast cars being produced by companies like Highway 61 are NOT the cheap, poorly made cars that came out back in the beginning. They have full working suspensions, rotating driveshafts, steerable front wheels, real rubber tires, fully detailed interiors with some having moveable sun visors and seats, opening glovebox doors and fully detailed engines and engine compartments! They run between $50.00 to $80.00 on average, but are well worth it in my humble opinion!

I build them. I don't do diecast. Cant just buy something done and look at it. LOL!

I love building, my Dad on the other hand who is 70 and doesnt want nor have the eyes & time to build I can understand.

I do buy damaged items from 1320 & GMP whom I have a friend at that hooks me up nice for parts. These items fit the 1/16 th scale models I build so often I will use the awesome old school stuff GMP has that you can't really find anywhere else. Checkout my 1/16th scale 57 Bird Gasser Im building. These are GMP wheels.

Well that track and the other I posted the pic of are hand routed 1/32nd scale tracks. They both are what as know as AC2Car tracks.

The one you asked about is a 3 lane track that 6 cars can race on at once, the other is a 4 lane capable of 8 cars at once.

The trick to running 2 cars in a single lane is the AC2Car system. The track is AC powered instead of your normal DC power, so each car requires a diode added to it. The tracks also have a second set of 3 lanes which are the passing lanes and have a pit area also.

This requires a lane changing setup that allows the car behind in a lane to switch to the passing lane to get around the other car in it's lane. This goes for the pit area also.

Here's a couple pics of the track you asked about. First is the pit lanes, second is a shot of the Targa Florio section and the last pic is the Corkscrew at Lagun Seca from the 4 lane track I posted.

All those cars have drivers and are controlled individually.

Much easier to do than explain.

The plastic model kits and slot cars are cool guys, I used to really be into both of those hobbies, but this thread is about ciecast, so I'm wondering if there are any other diecast collectors here on FBBO? So far, it looks like kidsixpack and I are the only ones?

Richard

Onebad, I haven't seen any of the 16th kits, I'll have to keep my eyes open for them.
Sledge, that is OMG impressive! Wow. :)

Thanks onebad. :)

Not quite true, as said, I have about 30. My biggest problem is a way to display them without them getting all dusty. I'm a single guy and dusting ain't at the top of my free time list. How do you display all of yours Banker?
Not to mention the temptation to take them out to play with them. :)

Thanks onebad. :)

Well, for me to store all of my cars, I had to COMPLETELY remodeled my family room and built two walls worth of floor to ceiling display units, capable of holding most of my collection! They are stored from 1 to 5 cars deep, depending on how deep the shelf is and two cars high on each shelf, so I move them around ever so often to display different cars.

As far as keeping them clean goes, they always stay in their original display boxes, which keeps them in like new condition. Every couple of months or so, I take down each car in it's display box and CAREFULLY clean off the dust from each display box and then put the unit back in place. With over 700 vehicles, it takes some time, but it's MUCH easier and safer than trying to dust off the cars themselves. It's kind of like running a 1/18th scale diecast car lot, as I also keep very detailed records on each car, so I know where, when and how much I paid for each car.

Keeping the dust off is why I've decided to leave the majority of them in the boxes. It's much easier than dusting the cars.

Wow! That slot car track is awesome! If I had a huge garage full of cars I'd do something like that out there. Way Cool!
