I believe that's the reverse view of the inside looking out of a square tube thingamajig.

It's possible to build some Escher stuff in 3 dimensions, and view/photo them at a very specific angle, that makes them appear to defy physics.

I believe I can see part of the splice where the "upper" bar appears to overlap the upright.

That suggests it's photoshopped, but they did a good job.
