Look on front edge of block were the lifter valley cover sits... usually hand stamped numbers there. They will tell all. Almost looks like a early hemi

It looks to me that the block was cast 4-15-57....... As Dutchrebuild said, get those numbers off the block by the valley pan. I have some old books from the 50s and can try to look the numbers up if you post them up.

1673729 casting number means it's a 392 Hemi
