Anyone know how I can get a title in Pennsylvania?

I got this rust free ‘68 Satellite in 1988 for $250. The guy couldn’t find the title. The car is from Arizona, and he was the 3rd owner. I tried calling Arizona DMV years ago and they said that any car not registered for 5 years gets purged from the system. I wonder if it was used in a nefarious way if the information would suddenly appear? Anyway, I blew it by not taking advantage of the Vermont loophole where you’d send them a bill of sale with the VIN and they’d send you a plate and registration. A bunch of YTer’s brought about the end of it by informing others, and a lot of grey market cars from South America that were stolen. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You will probably have to give PenDot the vin number with pictures and a bill of sale. They'll do a search to see if it's legit. Call them and tell them what you're situation is. Post your reply. Good luck!

And needs a lot of things to get it road worthy. I have a couple 440’s and an 18 spline box for it. But I won’t put anything into it until I own it legally. I’ve had the thing for 37 years now. :^]

I've heard of doing that also. You could use a trailer if you have access to one. I'd still call them and see what's involved now days.

I did have the local police run the VIN through NCIC before I purchased it. It didn’t show up, meaning it wasn’t stolen or had an unpaid lien.

I was told it had to be running and driving and be able to pass a safety inspection. Then they would give you a reconstructed title and a state VIN. To me that’s too much to ask.

Insurance is a problem with a reconstructed title as well.

Yeah, it’s funny. I got the info from Vermont DMV. That’s who they used. And with the Haggerty value on the car it would have been about $400 to get it myself. Like I said in the OP, I snoozed. I wonder what state they are using now instead of Vermont. They are in Maine, and that state doesn’t do it. By “do it” I mean issue a registration through the mail on a bill of sale and a VIN only.

Check with Alabama for some reason there maybe something there to help. I think there is a company from there that does it. I don’t recall the name I seen it in a car magazine.

I also asked on the B body page on FB. A couple others suggested that as well. But unless they will issue a registration with just a bill of sale and the VIN through the mail… That’s what Vermont did until a couple years ago.
