Just wondering what the normal operation temp of a 727 is? Also what would be a low temp and what is a overheating temp?

Thanks.

180 or less.....

Here is an old chart that explains trans temps....

If the transmission is plumbed and cooled by the radiator it will be within a few degrees of the engine temp, usually less.

It depends on the usage, the type of converter & which cooler you run. Below 205 seems good for short, hard use use(drag racing), 160 - 185 is good for normal.
IMHO, also depends on the type of band & clutch material in the 727. The red Raybestos style seems to take the higher heat a bit better.

I have a pickup with a trans temp gauge. It runs colder than the engine driving around empty. It runs at engine temp when towing flat, it goes up to 220-230 towing up hills, and it cools down to engine temp very fast when going down the hill and lifting off the gas pedal.

I have the trans lines in the radiator plus added a medium size extra cooler.

IMHO when you get to 220+ that is not good. If you get it back down fairly soon no problem.
