I'm looking for a Reproduction Vin tag for my 66 Satellite. The car is registered and insured in my name and I have the Title. My problem is, I sent the car to get wet blasted and I guess at some point the Vin Tag was removed and well didn't come back with it and honestly I didn't notice for a few years later and now the place I sent it to is long gone. So what are my options. I found a guy on another site that was making them but the post was from 2011 and his last post on the site was 2015.

This is what it should look like:

I had a similar situation where my whole dash was missing, I found a guy that would make a new one provided you could prove it was legit. That's been at least 5-6 years ago... wish I could remember the name but they are out there. I'll see if I can find it.

I live in NJ and can almost guarantee that will not work and I would probably be opening up a can of worms I don't really need to open. The only reason I care that it even has a Vin plate is that I will be running Drag week in September and they want to see the that the VIN matches the registration for a street car.

I'm sure you're not the first car to have this problem. Mopar had started using the "hidden" VIN's by 1966, right? Radiator core support & trunk lip, right? It's not a complete VIN, but it has all the last numbers, so that should be proof enough.

SO number on 66

No way to match VIN to SO without build sheet or IBM card IIRC

Has the OP sent for the IBM card?

The fender tag should at least confirm it's a "real" 383 4 barrel car.

Nope the Vin Tag is the only place on a 66 that has that number. There are SO#'s on rad support and under rear bumper but you would have to have the broadcast sheet to connect the two.

That being said I found a guy that reproduces the VIN plate and stamps them $295 for the plate and another $300 to stamp plus $8 dollars to ship. So $603 to fix my problem!!! I could have thought of a lot better ways to spend that kind of money but whatever.

Should be a crime for an individual to possess the ways and means to produce a VIN tag or any reproduction of any part with a VIN on it.

Make sure it gets COURIERED insured for full value!

Can get an entire fender tag, documented and produced for 1/2 that.. but of course this guy knows he's skirting the law and saving for his defence team.:poke:

Yea I get it that there's a stigma to reproducing VIN tags but in my case I have all the documentation, registered and insured in my name for over 15 years and I legit lost the plate. I'm not trying to make a car something it's not. Not trying to make a street Hemi clone or anything like that. It's an original 318 Satellite exactly what my title says. The only thing I'm really worried about is without a VIN plate if the car get stolen there's no Vin to trace it back too. If the car gets wrecked would the insurance company even payout with out the VIN confirming it's the actual car they insured. I really don't think so! And now the latest reason to take care of this Dragweek needs to confirm it's a legit street car.

ignorance of the law is a whole different matter. Their is a reason why each state has laws in place.......

I don’t care what the reason is....

According to them it’s totally legal on cars 15 years and older.

lol.....of course...because you already have it registered and titled then you're going behind the scenes to get a "fake" made......The law is broken once you attach the fake to the car........Hence, is why the honest way is to contact the state police and get a legal one made. Then have it attached by a trooper....

Really, I am not busting your chops. I just don't want one to think this is legit...its not....

However, we do have record of this in this thread............
